Smart Irrigation

Irrigation runs on timers regardless of soil moisture or rain, wasting water in some zones and under-watering others, and pump faults are found by crop damage.

MILESGO gateways collect data from soil moisture and EC sensors, irrigation valves and pump starters, flow meters, rain gauges, weather stations over LoRaWAN / Modbus RTU, and deliver it to a cloud platform (MQTT), WEB HMI panels, SMS, email and messaging alarms as MQTT / Modbus TCP. Field equipment keeps its own protocol and control logic; integration is done by configuration and point mapping, not custom code.

Implementation checklist for the project manager

  • Run a LoRaWAN coverage survey and pick the regional band (EU868 / US915 / AU915 / AS923 / KR920 / CN470) before ordering.
  • Write the control sequence (start/stop order, interlocks, set-points, fallback on communication loss) and have it approved before programming.
  • Outdoor sites need a weatherproof, ventilated enclosure with surge protection; the gateways are panel-mount devices (working range -20 °C to +70 °C).
  • Check 4G signal and the SIM data plan at every site before committing to cellular backhaul.
  • For hard-wired signals, list each DI/DO/AI/AO with its type (dry contact, 4–20 mA, 0–10 V, PT1000) and choose I/O modules accordingly.
  • Roll out in phases: pilot one site or area, confirm data quality, then replicate.

Sistem mimarisi

Field layer: soil moisture and EC sensors, irrigation valves and pump starters, flow meters, rain gauges, weather stations, connected over LoRaWAN / Modbus RTU. Edge and integration layer: MILESGO protocol gateways and edge controllers, mounted on DIN rail in existing panels, polling each device, time-stamping values and buffering them locally. Upper layer: a cloud platform (MQTT), WEB HMI panels, SMS, email and messaging alarms, which receives the data as MQTT / Modbus TCP. Remote access for maintenance runs over VPN rather than open internet ports.
