The district cooling plant must bill each customer building by energy delivered, but BTU meters in energy transfer stations are read by hand and supply temperatures are not tracked.

MILESGO gateways collect data from BTU / heat meters, chillers, chilled water pumps, pressure transmitters, PT100 / PT1000 temperature probes over M-Bus / Modbus RTU / Modbus TCP / BACnet/IP, and deliver it to SCADA, the billing system, the energy management system as OPC UA / MQTT / BACnet/IP. Field equipment keeps its own protocol and control logic; integration is done by configuration and point mapping, not custom code.

Implementation checklist for the project manager
- M-Bus: check unit loads and cable length per segment; 2-wire M-Bus gateways need a 24 V DC supply.
- Record CT ratios, meter IDs and multipliers in the point table; wrong multipliers are the usual cause of billing errors.
- Configure NTP so trends, alarms and meter readings carry consistent timestamps.
- Agree data retention and the report format needed for audits with the quality team at the start.
- Check 4G signal and the SIM data plan at every site before committing to cellular backhaul.
- Commission in read-only mode first; enable write / control points only after the client approves each one.

Remote access for maintenance runs over VPN rather than open internet ports.
